HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES PASSES NUCLEAR IRAN PREVENTION ACT

The House of Representatives, the lower American legislative body, has passed the Nuclear Iran Prevention Act of 2013 (HR 850). This bill will now go to the Senate for action. Though there may be changes, readers should be aware that the bill, as presently constituted, provides for, inter alia:

1. The designation of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO).
2. Mandatory sanctions shall be imposed upon on financial institutions that engage in transactions involving the diversion of all dual-use products to Iran, and with Iranian human rights violators.
3. Sanctions on individuals that engage in transactions involving the diversion of dual-use goods to Iran.
